TV and Children

TV and children has long been a topic of debate. Is TV bad for kids? How about TV violence and children? Although there are TV censorship for children, much of what is on TV nowadays are still inappropriate for children's viewing. Some childrens TV programs are showing inappropriate TV commercials between the children TV shows. So is TV bad for kids? TV advertising targeting children can be quite harmful and inappropriate.

The TV and children dilemma is a very tough one. As a working mom, you will need some time alone to do quality work, especially if you run a successful home based business as a stay at home and work at home mom. If you let your children watch TV all day, you will undoubtedly get alot of work done. However there are many problems with letting your children watch a lot of TV. Your kids may love it at the time but are they learning anything useful?

Effects of TV on children

Children are like sponge. They absorb what they see and hear. If parents are not there to point out what is right and wrong on TV, children won't know the difference. The younger they are, the more parents need to watch out what they learn. If they have absorbed incorrect information from TV, then it may be very difficult to correct it.

If you are a working mom, running a home based business, you need to be involving your children in what you do. You need to show your children constructively all the good knowledge such as prioritizing, keeping promises, keeping appointments, planning, or even business related skills such as balancing the books or keeping records. These are good and useful skills. On TV, however, your children may find themselves learning to like playing video games. The commercials would show them that all the cool kids are doing it. Working moms and stay at home moms need to be creative about how they are spending time with their children and involving them in their work. If kids feel left out, they will resort to watching television. If working moms don't have time to teach them, they will learn from commercials and TV.
