How to Find a Legitimate Work at Home Job?

While there are plenty of legitimate work at home jobs around, they are outnumbered by the sheer number of illegitimate work at home jobs or scammers. Some people wouldn't know what a legitimate work at home job is even if it hits him or her in the face. Why? Because legitimate work at home jobs don't over promise that everything will be rosy and you can make a lot of money in a short amount of time. Legitimate work at home jobs often involve harder work than most people would like to believe. That's why scammers sell people their dream, tell them what they want to hear and omitting facts and the truth.

Ask questions

Legitimate work at home program sponsors should tell you unfront in writing what's involved in the program that they are selling. To find out if a work at home job is legitimate, you need to ask the promoter a lot of questions. Below are some questions to ask.

  • what tasks will I have to perform? (list every step of the job)
  • will I be paid a salary or will my pay be based on commission?
  • who will pay me?
  • when will I get my first paycheck?
  • what is the total cost of the work at home program including supplies, equipment or membership fees and what will I get for my money?

These questions regarding how much money you will have to invest upfront, what you have to do and how you get paid are very important. If the answers are wishy washy then you should stay away from that work at home business opportunity or job. You have to be confident that the answers are solid and if in doubt ask for proof in writing.

The answers to the questions above will help you determine if a home business opportunity is a legitimate work at home job and if it is appropriate for your situation. If you ask these questions to all the promoters you come into contact with, the chances are you will find a legitimate work at home job eventually.

Check the company out

You will also want to check out the company with your local consumer protection agency, state Attorney General and Better Business Bureau in the city and state the company is located in and also in the area where you live. You can find out about any complaints against the company or any work at home job that interests you. However bear in mind that many illegitimate companies don't have any complaints against them. Some companies have changed their names over and over to avoid being detected and avoid lawsuits.
